SEED Program Champions Safeguarding and Inclusion

At the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), through the SEED program in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, we remain deeply committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for all.

We're proud to share a major achievement: a comprehensive Safeguarding and Inclusion Training that empowered 107 Senior Trainers (34 female, 73 male) across Bahir Dar, Mekelle, Hawassa, and Addis Ababa with essential safeguarding knowledge and skills.

The training strengthened our trainers, advisors, and regional staff with:

• A clear understanding of safeguarding policies and reporting mechanisms.

• The ability to identify, prevent, and respond to risks.

• Inclusive and disability-aware practices for safe service delivery

. Through interactive sessions, role-plays, and real-life case reflections, participants enhanced their capacity to integrate safeguarding into daily operations. Crucially, each Senior Trainer is tasked with cascading this training to 30 fellow trainers, multiplying the impact nationwide.

In addition, participants developed regional safeguarding action plans, which have now been incorporated into the four regions’ yearly plans, ensuring that safeguarding and inclusion are embedded in our work and not treated as a one-time activity.

This initiative marks a cornerstone of EDI’s commitment to ethical, protective, and inclusive programming. With this expanded team and clear action pathways, we are better positioned than ever to uphold safeguarding standards and ensure a safe journey for Ethiopia’s entrepreneurs.
