ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia— The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) concluded a three-day Public Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem Building (PEIEB) workshop for the University of Gondar’s management team, held March 7–9 in Addis Ababa.
The workshop brought together 16 senior management members to strengthen leadership capacity by embedding entrepreneurial thinking and innovation within the university’s institutional framework.
The training focused on equipping participants with the mindsets and practical tools needed to design value-creating initiatives. Key sessions explored design-driven opportunity identification, feasibility testing for innovative ideas, and resource mobilization strategies for transformative solutions.
Through interactive sessions, participants assessed their entrepreneurial competencies, set institutional innovation goals, and discussed ways to cultivate a culture of creativity and resilience within the university system.
As part of the program, the delegation visited EDI headquarters and the Public Sector Innovation Lab at the Ministry of Labor and Skills. These visits provided firsthand exposure to Ethiopia’s evolving innovation ecosystem and showcased practical models for public sector transformation.
Participants lauded the program’s methodology as a practical blueprint for academic capacity building. A senior university representative noted that while the institution previously looked toward international models for excellence, the workshop demonstrated that EDI provides a global standard of professionalism and organizational expertise within Ethiopia.
The management team emphasized that the insights gained will serve as a catalyst for the University of Gondar’s upcoming strategic projects, accelerating its transition toward an innovation-driven institutional model.
By strengthening strategic leadership, this initiative supports the University of Gondar’s evolution into an entrepreneurial university, ultimately contributing to improved institutional performance and national development.
