Pushing for strong work culture and productivity in Ethiopia
Validation workshop held on the National Work Culture and Productivity Research and Strategy
A validation workshop on the Draft National Work Culture and Productivity Strategy was successfully held, marking a vital step in strengthening Ethiopia’s economic competitiveness.
The event was jointly led by the Ministry of Labor and Skills (MoLS) and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), with technical support from the International Labor Organization (ILO) through the PROSPECTS partnership. The workshop convened a diverse array of stakeholders from government, the private sector, multilateral institutions, associations, academia, employers' and employees' federations.
The proposed strategy is directly informed by comprehensive findings from the National Work Culture and Labor Productivity Assessment. The research utilized a blend of qualitative and quantitative data collected from various institutions and individuals, which highlighted the current status and practices of work culture in Ethiopia.
The initiative’s framework is systematic, comprising four major components: assessing current practices, developing the national strategy, designing a capacity development program, and promoting the integration of work culture and ethics. All components are designed to address the findings of the assessment.
The primary objective of the Validation Workshop, held at the Capital Hotel in Addis Ababa, was to present the major findings of the research and the subsequent Draft National Work Culture and Productivity Strategy to stakeholders for their technical input and reflection.
The strategy aims to strengthen social dialogue and cultivate fundamental values like cooperation, innovation, performance-linked reward systems, and continuous learning, ultimately building a more competitive and skilled Ethiopian workforce.
Stakeholders' expertise and perspectives were indispensable to the process. Their valuable feedback on the research report and the draft strategy is instrumental in finalizing a robust, relevant, and implementable capacity development packages.
We are moving closer to implementing capacity development packages that will enhance productivity and innovation. These efforts are designed to enhance employability, boost job retention, and drive sustained economic growth across the country.
