The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) hosted a Media Forum on November 27, 2025, at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa, as a key component of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2025 celebration in Ethiopia.
The forum brought together 80 journalists and media professionals, including editors, producers, reporters, and social media influencers, representing 45 public and private media institutions from across the country, encompassing television, radio, news agencies, magazines, newspapers, online media, and social media. The gathering served as a crucial platform to raise awareness about Ethiopia's ongoing entrepreneurial journey and celebrate the Global Entrepreneurship Week under the powerful theme, "Together We Build."
In his opening remarks, Mr. Boru Shana, Deputy Director of EDI, stressed the irreplaceable role of communication in national development. "The media is not just a chronicler of events; it is a vital vehicle to realize a nation's entrepreneurial journey," he stated. "By spotlighting innovators, sharing success stories, and demystifying the challenges, the media directly contributes to enhancing a culture of enterprise and economic growth."
Mrs. Emebet Techane, Lead of the EDI Communication and Partnership Unit, echoed this sentiment, calling for sustained effort. She urged media participants to continue actively amplifying the entrepreneurial agenda in their respective outlets, ensuring that the message of opportunity reaches every corner of the nation.
A major success of the forum was the commitment secured from participants. The gathered journalists and media professionals agreed to work closely with the EDI to ensure wider public outreach and heightened awareness regarding the importance of entrepreneurship for national development.
Following the forum, the day culminated with the official closing ceremony for the GEW 2025 Ethiopia event. During the ceremony, the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) was recognized as the Best Media Outlet Supporting Entrepreneurship for its outstanding commitment and consistent efforts in amplifying entrepreneurial voices and dedicating substantial coverage to the sector.
The EDI looks forward to leveraging these renewed media partnerships to drive Ethiopia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem forward in the years to come, building on the spirit of "Together We Build."
