The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) marked African Day on May 23, 2025, in a story night event centered on the theme "African solutions for African problems."
The night featured discussions with Mr. Laban Mawungwe Langa, Managing Director of Lap Marketing Consultants and Director at Geno Farm in Uganda, and Dr. Theodore Menelik-Mfuni, CEO of Menelik Education and a seasoned academic and development practitioner.
The discussion between the guests and attendees explored critical aspects of African development, including the significance of local knowledge, community empowerment, the role of entrepreneurship and education, and strategic international partnerships. Mr. Laban shared his on-the-ground experiences from Geno Farm, illustrating the power of African-led initiatives in enhancing agricultural practices and fostering community well-being. Dr. Theodore contributed his expertise in education and policy, emphasizing the need to tailor educational programs to the continent's unique context and to engage with international partners in a way that benefits Africa.
Hassen Hussein (PhD), CEO of EDI, stressed the vital role of entrepreneurship across various sectors, including agriculture, in achieving African self-reliance. Mr. Boru Shana, Deputy Director General of EDI, highlighted the importance of strengthening local capacities, knowledge, and continental integration.
The story night's discussions illuminated the wealth of African expertise and the collective commitment to cultivating indigenous solutions for the continent's advancement.
